Chang Luong Restaurant
About This Spot
Perched above the steady hum of Durant Avenue, Chang Luong Restaurant invites you into a space that feels quietly lived-in and unpretentious—a spot where the focus gently settles on the food and the shared moments around the table. The warm but dim lighting, paired with the modest décor, whispers stories of a family-run kitchen that has found its rhythm in serving authentic Chinese fare without fuss or fanfare.
The pace here carries an easy patience. Plates don’t rush to the table; instead, each dish arrives with a sense of care and intention. It’s the kind of place where the kitchen’s presence is felt and appreciated—watching the chefs work behind the scenes adds an intimate layer to the dining experience, as if you’ve stepped into a neighborhood establishment where the act of cooking is just as meaningful as the meal itself.
Chang Luong’s menu brings a comforting variety rooted in northern Chinese traditions, offering hearty bowls of congee, delicate dumplings that require a practiced hand to fold just so, and bold takes on spicy seafood that tease the palate without overwhelming it. Simple vegetable sides seasoned with garlicky touches balance the meal and speak to a genuine homestyle approach. There’s a satisfying honesty in every bite, a reminder that here the food is meant for nourishment and enjoyment, not showmanship.
The restaurant’s second-floor location gives it a slightly tucked-away feeling, inviting diners to slow down and savor the moment. It’s a welcoming destination for families who need space to gather, or for anyone longing for a relaxed atmosphere where the occasional wait becomes an opportunity for anticipation rather than impatience.
Chang Luong quietly thrives on its own terms—a humble refuge for those who appreciate food that carries the textures and flavors of a place firmly rooted in tradition, served with a warmth that feels like a small gift for anyone who discovers it.

This is a hidden gem on Durant Ave. The restaurant looks like it's a family-run place that's good for a chill dining-out experience (there's a wait for the food but it's worth it). If you're looking for authentic spicy cuisine from North China, this is a good place to start. There's plenty of space for families and large groups. The restaurant is on the second floor and you'll need to take the stairs past the Korean restaurant. It's not a difficult climb but it also means the place is not wheelchair-friendly. Payment accepted via cash or Venmo.

The food was Amazing!!! Sure it had slightly dim lighting and an interesting atmosphere, but if you want good food, at a good price, being cooked right behind you right after you order, this is the place to go. Service was fast, the chef and assumed owner was nice!

I have to say it is one of the best crispy fried pork with sauce(溜肉段) I tried. I don’t mind the service. The owner is a interesting guy. I first asked if it is (authentic) north-eastern cuisine, because the owner is speaking southern accent. The owner is super impatient and asked me to the name of the restaurant. He also keeps complaining he is too tired. Anyway, would definitely come again.
